To my Southern Neighbors,

I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every American who has supported the rescue/recovery mission at the World Trade Center. As everyone who has access to the media knows, terrorists hijacked and crashed two commercial jet liners into Towers One and Two, causing them to collapse. Prior to the Towers collapsing, Port Authority Police, New York City Police, and New York City Fire Fighters were successful in evacuating over 25,000 innocent people from the Trade Center Towers.

Unfortunately, we know what happened next, and as the buildings collapsed, over 300 New York City Firefighters, 32 New York City Police Officers, and a still undetermined number of Port Authority Officers lost their lives trying to save others. There is no greater sacrifice that we, as humans, can make. But I want to address the sacrifice that my neighbors to the south have made for us, the rescue workers, who continue to dig in the hopes of recovering another human body so that a grieving family may have some sort of closure.

My sister, Mary Jo Dellucci, started a relief drive in your area. The response has been wonderful. The supplies that were sent have been distributed to fire houses and police precincts across the New York Metropolitan area. When members from my department deliver the care boxes from South Carolina, you can see the emotions on the faces of the workers who have received your support. As we deliver the clothes, work gloves, flashlights, food, ponchos, and everything else you have donated, I can see the tears well up in the eyes of my fellow public servants, knowing that the nation mourns with us.

Your generosity has proven that we are a nation united. Through you, the rescue efforts go on. I cannot thank you enough for you support and you have truly made me proud to be an American.

Forever Grateful,

sig
